Cristina’s Story

For me, Mercy Learning Center is an extraordinary way to improve my learning skills and have more opportunities. I came to Mercy Learning Center knowing that something was missing in my life. I knew I needed a high school diploma. Without it I cannot go on to college or find a good job. Here I am making a change in my life. No matter what gets in my way, I remain positive! At Mercy Learning Center, I have found a comfortable home where I feel peace and people who are always trying to help me.

I came to Mercy Learning Center to get my GED. I didn’t speak English so they placed me in the ESL class. I moved onto the Adult Basic Education I class and took computer classes. I can type without looking at the keyboard and write letters in Word. Then I moved up the Adult Basic Education I class, and now I am in the GED class. I am learning about Social Studies, Science, Math and how to write essays. My teachers help me a lot by pushing me a little bit to improve. Since attending Mercy Learning Center I have improved my grammar and my math skills. Here, I am doing so well that I don’t want to stop.

Getting an education and a GED diploma will lead me to college, so that I may follow my dreams. I dream of a better future for my son – one where he can go to a good school, so he doesn’t have to go through what I did. I am taking one step forward and giving myself and my family one more chance to do something better.
